A$AP Rocky Might Be Eyeing New York City’s Mayor’s Office

Okay, so this is wild. A$AP Rocky — yes, the rapper, fashion icon, and all-around headline-maker — just dropped a hint that he might run for mayor of New York City. And honestly? He sounds… surprisingly serious.

In a recent chat with Esquire, Rocky opened up about why he thinks politics could be his next move. “For sure,” he said when asked if it was on the table. “I think so, there are a lot of political affairs that need to be addressed, changes that need to be made. I think that I would really do well because I’m a guy that’s for the people.”

Yeah, he said that.

Talking About Real Issues

What’s refreshing here is that he’s not just name-dropping or throwing out vague promises. Rocky went straight for the stuff New Yorkers deal with every day: potholes in the streets, rising train fares, and cuts to benefits like SNAP and food stamps.

“See potholes, fix ’em. The rates for the trains, like the train fare just went up to $3 (£2.20), it’s fking crazy. Inflation is crazy,” he said. “SNAP and welfare and food stamps and all of these benefits is fked up because that’s where I derive from. Creating more job opportunities, create better health care.”

For those who don’t know, SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme, basically the U.S. food stamp system for low-income families. And Rocky clearly knows the struggles people face — he’s talking about things that hit home for a lot of folks.

A Different Take on Politics

He also made it clear that he sees himself differently from the typical politician. “These are some of the things that most politicians come in promising, but for the most part, a lot of the decisions made by politicians have ulterior motives, and it’s really self-beneficial. For me, I make a really great living off being myself.”

Then, of course, he hit us with the classic Rocky line: “2029 vote for Mayor Mayers. Vote for Rocky.” You can imagine the internet reactions already.

The Big Picture

Right now, Mayor Zohran Mamdani is in his first year. It’s still unclear if he plans to run for a second term, but Rocky’s comments are bound to stir up conversations across the city — and online.

Whether you think this is a serious political move or just Rocky being Rocky, one thing is for sure: he’s not afraid to dream big, and he’s definitely not afraid to speak his mind.

So… New Yorkers, are you ready to vote for Rocky?
