AMVCA – 2026
The 2026 AMVCA was honestly one of those nights that had everybody talking — from movie lovers to fashion fans and even people who normally don’t keep up with award shows. Lagos was fully lit as actors, filmmakers, influencers, and celebrities from all over Africa showed up at the Eko Hotel for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
From the red carpet alone, you could already tell the night was going to be loud online. The fashion? Crazy. People came dressed like they were attending the Met Gala with an African twist. There were dramatic gowns, royal-inspired outfits, futuristic looks, heavy beads, luxury aso-ebi styles — everybody wanted to make a statement.
Names like Mercy Aigbe, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Liquorose, Beauty Tukura, and Osas Ighodaro immediately started trending because social media couldn’t stop arguing about who was best dressed.
But beyond the fashion, the movies really had their moment too.
The biggest winner of the night was My Father’s Shadow. The film basically dominated the AMVCAs and walked away with major awards including Best Movie. You could tell how emotional the cast and crew were when they won because the whole room erupted.
Akinola Davies Jr. also picked up Best Director for the movie, while the project won praise for its storytelling, sound, and overall production quality. A lot of people online were saying it proves African cinema is reaching another level completely.
One of the biggest moments of the night came from Linda Ejiofor. She pulled off something really rare by winning both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress on the same night. The reactions online were immediate because people genuinely felt she deserved it. Her speech was emotional, and fans loved seeing her finally get that level of recognition.
Uzor Arukwe also had a massive night after winning Best Lead Actor for Colours of Fire. Fans were celebrating the win heavily online because many people felt he has been underrated for years.
Another film that kept popping up throughout the night was To Kill a Monkey. It picked up awards for cinematography, editing, and music score, showing just how technically strong the production was.
Then there was Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, which won Best Indigenous Language Film in West Africa. A lot of viewers loved seeing indigenous storytelling continue to get attention on such a big stage.
Of course, it wouldn’t be the AMVCAs without some controversy and social media debates. Some fans felt certain actors and movies were “snubbed,” while others argued over who deserved what. X (Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram were basically on fire all night with reactions, memes, fashion breakdowns, and hot takes.
One thing almost everybody agreed on though was this: African entertainment is growing fast. The quality of movies, production, acting, fashion, and storytelling at the 2026 AMVCA felt bigger and more global than ever.
By the end of the night, the AMVCAs didn’t just feel like an award show anymore — it felt like a full celebration of how far African film and pop culture have come.
