Davido Marks 15 Years in Music and Honestly, It Feels Like We Grew Up With Him

It’s actually hard to believe, but Davido has been in this music game for 15 years already.

Like, from “Dami Duro” days till now. Many of us were still in school when that song came out. Now the guy is dropping his sixth album, ORIADÉ, and celebrating 15 years in the industry. Time no dey wait for anybody.

What I find interesting is that this doesn’t even feel like one of those normal album releases. It feels more like Davido looking back at everything he has passed through.

The success.

The awards.

The family moments.

The controversies.

The losses too.

And somehow he still remains one of the biggest names in Afrobeats.

He said the album is about legacy and this “crown” phase of his life. The title ORIADÉ is from Yoruba, and it’s connected to royalty and being crowned. So you can tell he’s trying to make a statement, not just chase another hit song.

Honestly, when you think about songs like If, Fall, Assurance, FEM, Feel, and Unavailable, it’s almost like every few years Davido gives people another anthem.

That’s why this 15-year celebration is a big deal.

A lot of artists blow up, then disappear after two or three years. Davido has stayed relevant through different eras of Nigerian music. From CDs and downloads to TikTok and streaming, the guy has survived all of it.

And the album has some strong collaborations too — Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Leon Thomas, Mayorkun, Llona. It’s sounding very African but still global at the same time.

For me, the biggest thing is not even the numbers.

It’s the consistency.

Fifteen years of showing up is not easy. Whether people love him or criticize him, Davido always comes back with music.

So yeah, this moment feels less like “Davido released another album” and more like “Davido has officially become one of the legends of this generation.”

And if you’ve been listening to him since the beginning, this one will probably hit a little different.
